With the ski season upon us, it’s time for athletes and clubs to focus on avalanche safety education. The Bryce and Ronnie Athlete Snow Safety Foundation (BRASS) is again offering free BRASS 101 classes this month, taught by experienced avalanche safety educators and featuring guest appearances by U.S. Ski Team athletes.

Free online classes are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 9 and Tuesday, Nov. 16, each starting at 6:00 p.m. MST. The 75-minute program will feature avalanche safety education, a Q&A with a U.S. Ski Team star and showing of the film Off Piste.

U.S. Ski Team downhill star and BRASS board member Steven Nyman will be featured in the Nov. 9 online workshop. River Radamus, fresh off a career best sixth in the season opener at Soelden, will be the showcase athlete on Nov. 16.

The Nov. 9 program will be taught by longtime club coach, mountain guide and avalanche safety educator Lindsay Mann of Sun Valley, Ida. On Nov. 16, an avalanche forecaster, educator and mountain guide from Crested Butte, Colo. will be the presenter.

The online workshops are conducted on Zoom and are free of charge. U.S. Ski & Snowboard club coaches can receive continuing education credit for participation. Links to free registration can be found at brassavalanche.org.
